What we've been up to...

Since you don't get to see a lot of your child's work coming home, I wanted to share some things we have been doing!  First, our class makes lots of charts and graphs to explore sorting, counting, and comparing quantities.  We will do several of these over the course of the year, increasing the difficulty and format as we grow and learn.  Here are a few samples we have done over the past few weeks...

(Tip...If you can't view the writing in the photos, double-click the picture and it will open in a new window with an enlarged picture!)

To help learn our class rules, we sorted good and bad choices based on our school PAWS (Back to School unit).

Are you a bus rider, car rider, or do you go to ASP(Back to School unit)?

This is the graph we made to hang on our birthday board (All About Me unit)!

We graphed how many letters were in our name after reading Chrysanthemum...Chrysanthemum had a really loooooong name! (All About Me unit)

Most of us have 4 or 5 members of our immediate family (Family unit)!

Diaper Science Graph (see previous post) (Family unit)

We voted on names for our class pets (Pet unit).

We also make several language charts to promote literacy development.  the charts hang in the room or hallway and we encourage students to re-read them during centers! Below are some we have done so far...

A pre-reading activity for Froggy's Day with Dad (Family unit)

Comparing babies and 4-year-olds (Family unit)...

A pre-reading activity for The Napping House (Family/Pet unit)...

A follow-up activity after reading Llama, Llama Red Pajama (family unit)...

A follow-up activity to Harry, the Dirty Dog...Harry didn't like to take a bath so we came up with ideas to help him like bath time (Pet unit)...
