Happy Fall Break!

Hope everyone has a wonderful break!  We will see you all Monday, October 24 as we kick off our Halloween unit!  Can't wait!

Apple Day!

We displayed our apple glyphs!

We had an apple seed spitting contest!

Our class went to the bus circle and took turns spitting apple seeds for a measurement activity!  We used blue (boys) and pink (girls) string to measure how far each child's seed went! Check out these awesome spitting pictures!

Then, we came inside and compared the length of all the strings.  The strings were taped to a piece of paper and stretched out side by side on the carpet.  We looked at the boys' strings first and made a list of longest to shortest.  Next, we compared the girls' strings and made a list of shortest to longest. Our class was so kind and cheered for everyone!  You would have thought they all had the longest spit!!

Finally, it was time for our apple party!!  Unfortunately, our camera batteries died so we weren't able to take photos :(...but, this is what we had!

Thank you to Nikki for bringing apple butter!  We tasted it on crackers!

Thank you to Landen W. for bringing apple cookies!

Thank you to Bailey for bringing biscuits and apple jelly!
Thank you to Aubree for bringing apple juice!
Thank you to Teddy for bringing apples and peanut butter!
Thank you to Bailey for bringing applesauce, too!
Thank you to Landon G. for bringing home-made caramel apples!  Some of us were so full that we decided to take them home.  If your child did not have one in his/her bookbag, it is because they just couldn't wait and decided to eat it at school, too!
Thank you to Colby for bringing dried apples!  This was a first for many of us!
And, thank you to Deanna for bringing green apples!  We used them to get our apple seeds for the spitting contest and then ate the slices at the party!

Wrapping Up Our Week...

This week, we have used our senses to describe the inside and outside of an apple...

We compared apples and pumpkins and made a Venn diagram (similarities in the middle, differences in outer rings)...

And, we did a science experiment to see if pumpkins float!

First, we held the pumpkin to judge how heavy it was...

Then, we guessed whether or not we thought the pumpkin would float.  Some of us thought it would not float because it was heavy and some of us thought about a boat and decided that it would float since a boat floats.

Next, we tested our hypotheses!  We tried three sizes and all three pumpkins floated!

Our class was anxious to test other items so we took turns finding other things in our room that we could test!

Meet Lexie!

Lexie is our Student of the Week this week!  Lexie shared with us that her favorite color is pink, her favorite book is Llama Llama Red Pajama, her favorite food is chicken, her favorite thing to do is swim (Lexie takes swimming lessons every week!), and she wants to be a princess when she grows up!  Congratulations Lexie!  We are so happy to have you in our class!

This is our "Student of the Week" board that is posted in the hallway!  It will be updated for each classmate every week!

We are Junior Firefighters!!

We were so excited when Landen W.'s parents told us that they could arrange for a visit from the firefighters!  We had no idea how cool it was going to be!  Check it out!

We met Sparky the Dog and he TALKED!!

Landen W.'s aunt led the presentation!
Aubree's dad was there, too!
 So was Landen W.'s dad!
We learned about what firefighters wear!

They showed us how to crawl low and let us touch them so we wouldn't be scared of them if we were ever in a fire and needed help!

Then, Sparky talked to us about how to "Stop, Drop, and Roll!"

So proud of our classroom dads!!

At the end of the presentation, we got cool fire helmets and badges for being such great listeners!

Thank you to all the wonderful firefighters for taking time out of there day to visit us!  We appreciate all you do to help keep us safe!
