During our "Forest Animal" unit, we had a chance to observe some things we might see in a forest...antlers, feathers, acorns, pinecones, and a beaver stick.
So for Thanksgiving, we had an opportunity to observe turkey feathers, a turkey beard, and turkey feet! This group is actually drawing a picture of the turkey claws!
In true Thanksgiving fashion, our class talked about things we are thankful for and made this wreath to display our ideas! (Remember...if you double-click the photo, it will enlarge in another window so you can read the words!
We also talked about each other's unique Thanksgiving traditions! This is a chart we made about who stays at home for the holiday and who travels to someone else's house.

We also talked about our own unique Thanksgiving traditions. Our class made a chart of who stayed home for Thanksgiving and who traveled to someone else's house!
Many of our Thanksgiving stories discussed the foods we eat at Thanksgiving...which opened the door for discussions on eating our vegetables. In this counting story, a little girl eats all kinds of ridiculous things (1 hare, 2 snakes , 3 ants, 4 rats, 5 bats, 6 mice, 7 frogs, 8 worms, 9 lizards) and you would think she would throw up, but she doesn't! Why do 4 year olds love to talk about throw-up?! At the end of the story, she eats 1o green peas...which makes her throw up!! The kids thought this was the best story we read all year!!
While we read, we added some props to help us practice our counting and Aubree volunteered to play the role of the little girl!

And when she threw up...Aubree tossed all of the props onto the carpet for everyone to collect.
Then, we all took turns sorting our objects onto paper plates and recounting our props.
As a conclusion to our story, we made a chart of things that might make us throw-up!! Mrs. Melba and I have not laughed so hard all year!! I wish you all could have seen their faces while they were talking about those "yucky" foods!!
We also read "Growing Vegetable Soup" and actually made our very own vegetable soup as a follow-up activity. First, we put some of our favorite vegetables into our crockpot...
Then, we gave it a good stir and let it sit all day!! Yum!!
It was finally ready for tasting after we woke up from nap!
After tasting our soup, everyone was given a tag to write their name on.
We used these tags to make a graph of our favorite part of the vegetable soup!
